Lourdes

Lourdes

Oral history from El Salvador to Lawrence, Kansas.

Lourdes is a filmmaker based in New York. She is bilingual due to her mother’s efforts to teach Lourdes as well as her younger brother and sister Spanish. She reflects on being Latina in Kansas and how several individuals have had difficulties pronouncing her name. She found learning about the American interventions in countries like El Salvador to be shocking. When asked about what the older Latino generation should know, she says that there should be less secrecy and that it is important to share stories in order to preserve histories.
