Gina is an indigenous woman from a rural town in Guerrero, Mexico. She speaks of her childhood which was when she realized that her family’s resources were very limited. Gina arrived in Lawrence, Kansas with hopes of continuing her education but found herself with a younger daughter to care for. She says that she has chosen to stay in Lawrence with her family because it protects her in a way other cities in other states would not.
